The editorial verdict

The ownership case.

The lower body is its clearest upgrade over Curv; extra heat and suction should support the decision rather than replace a furniture and floor assessment.

Reasons to consider it

  • Retractable sensor improves low-space access
  • DuoDivide and extending edge tools
  • Warm-water refill and automated pad care

Go in knowing

  • No cleaning-solution cartridge on the cited US model
  • Maximum pressure requires the relevant app mode
  • Curv and CurvX are different machines

01 / THE DETAILS

The X makes a practical difference

CurvX should be considered a different machine from the original Qrevo Curv, even though the rounded station creates a strong family resemblance. Its retractable navigation unit lowers the advertised minimum height to 7.98 cm. That is the upgrade most likely to change which parts of a home get cleaned. A higher suction figure cannot reach under a sofa the robot physically cannot enter, whereas a lower profile might. Measure the real clearance before assigning value to the improvement. If the house has tall-legged furniture and flat transitions, the original Curv's design may already cover the same floor and the comparison becomes more about mopping and the local offer.

02 / THE DETAILS

A retractable sensor needs a complete route

RetractSense lowers the laser unit when required and supplements it with other sensing. This makes entry under furniture possible, but it also creates a useful test question: can the robot retain a dependable route when the high viewpoint is unavailable? We would observe repeat visits beneath a low bed with its ordinary supports and bedding, not just an empty test shelf. Check that an opening remains high enough when the robot is tilted on a rug edge. Avoid setting the entry clearance so tightly that a small change in the floor or upholstery causes trapping. Gaining an extra room segment is only beneficial when the machine can leave it and return to the dock.

Warm water and pressure have specific meanings

Roborock describes higher mopping pressure and warm-water refill, alongside an up-to-80°C dock wash. The maximum stated pressure is associated with a particular deep-clean function in the app, so it should not be treated as the force used on every ordinary pass. Likewise, the warm water is supplied through the dock workflow; this is not a steam cleaner. These distinctions matter on moisture-sensitive flooring. Increased agitation and warmth may help with certain residues, but a cautious water setting and a suitable cleaning product remain important. Test a dried kitchen mark and inspect the floor after drying instead of judging solely by the immediately wet appearance.

Hair handling and perimeter coverage

The DuoDivide brush directs hair toward the intake and the extending tools reach beyond the round body's normal footprint. Together they aim at maintenance and coverage rather than just motor output. For a long-haired household, check the whole collection path: roller ends, side-brush hub, bin and bag transfer. A clean centre brush does not prove there is no accumulation elsewhere. Along cabinets, inspect whether the extending mop reaches a consistent strip and whether the robot can position itself at awkward corners. If the floor has deep grout, an apparently complete pass can still leave material in the recesses. Those details are more useful than comparing pressure and suction figures across brands.

Station placement and detergent handling

The cited US page explicitly says CurvX does not have a cleaning-solution cartridge. That is a useful reminder not to assume every premium dock automatically dispenses detergent. Follow the model's own instructions for approved solution and dilution. The station's rounded body also needs working clearance beyond the space occupied by its shell, including room above for tanks and in front for approach. Roborock publishes placement guidance on the product page; verify it against the manual supplied with the regional unit. If the only attractive location obstructs tank removal, the visual appeal of the dock will be less satisfying once regular mopping begins.

The case for buying CurvX

CurvX is persuasive when a buyer wants the Curv-style station and hair system but needs improved low-furniture access. Compare Saros 10R for a similarly low body with a different navigation architecture, and Curv for a simpler purchase if height is irrelevant. We have not measured the benefit of its higher pressure or warmer mopping against those alternatives. A proper trial would separate clearance, stain removal, edge coverage and total maintenance time. The documented design is coherent, but its premium should be justified by accessible floor area and less human work, not by assuming every higher specification produces a proportional improvement in cleanliness.

07 / THE DETAILS

A careful setup for the lower Curv

CurvX's published placement guidance calls for working space around the dock, including substantial height for servicing. Check that against the current manual and the intended niche before ordering. The station's rounded appearance can make it seem easier to tuck away than it is once tanks have to be removed. A useful rehearsal is to lift an equivalent container from the proposed height and carry it to the sink without crossing an awkward rug. Put the robot's low-furniture route on the same sketch. The purchase combines a relatively low moving machine with a substantial stationary appliance; both must fit. If the lower body gains access to the sofa but the only dock position blocks a doorway, the installation problem has merely moved to another part of the room.

Detergent handling needs particular attention because the cited CurvX page says there is no cleaning-solution cartridge. Follow the supplied model's guidance for compatible chemistry and dilution instead of assuming a premium dock will meter it automatically. Too much solution can create residue and unnecessary rinsing work. On a vulnerable finish, start with conservative water settings and inspect the dry surface before scheduling repeated wet passes. The maximum pressure setting is not necessarily the default, so note the mode used when assessing a difficult mark. This makes comparisons reproducible and avoids attributing a change to the hardware when the actual difference is an app setting. Keep spare pads that explicitly fit CurvX and allow washed components to dry as instructed before reinstalling them.

The retractable sensor and camera-assisted recognition create two distinct support questions. If the robot fails under furniture, record the clearance, whether the sensor lowered and where the route stopped. If it fails around an object, record that object's shape and placement without testing with hazardous material. These observations help distinguish a physical access issue from an avoidance problem. Review remote-viewing and voice settings on their own merits; useful navigation does not require making the robot a household monitoring device. For a Canadian purchase, establish who repairs the sensor mechanism and dock and whether both must be returned together. CurvX's upgrade case is strongest when it demonstrably reaches a useful low area and reduces wet-cleaning effort. A higher pressure or temperature claim alone is not enough to outweigh awkward service logistics or a floor that should be mopped only sparingly.
