Sightline · privacy

Sightline privacy policy.

Sightline is a direct-install Android app, so you deserve to know exactly what it does with your data before you trust it. This page is the complete list. Last updated 16 October 2026.

The short version.

  • There is no account, no sign-in and no personal profile.
  • Sightline contains no analytics, crash-reporting, advertising or tracking code, and Meta's toolkit analytics are switched off.
  • Your questions, photos and audio go only to the AI provider you chose, directly from your phone, using your own API key. Tech Standpoint has no server in that path and never sees them.
  • The only thing Sightline sends to Tech Standpoint is the membership check: your email or unlock code, a random device id, your phone's make and model, and the time. We never sell or share it.

What leaves your phone, and where it goes.

Assistant requests
What you say, photos you take with the glasses for a question, Live Look frames, Field Notes dictation, translation audio and anything else you ask the AI go to the provider you picked in Settings: Anthropic (Claude), OpenAI (ChatGPT), Google (Gemini), xAI (Grok). Their privacy policies apply to that data. Web search, where offered, is performed by the same provider. Your key is sent only to that provider.
Live streams
Video and audio from the glasses go to the platform you chose (YouTube, Twitch, Kick, Facebook, TikTok or a server you entered) using the stream key you typed in. The key is stored encrypted on the phone and is sent only to that platform.
Membership check
When you tap Unlock, the app sends your membership email or unlock code, a random device id it generated at install, your phone's make and model, and the time to a small Cloudflare service run by Tech Standpoint. The service confirms the membership with Buy Me a Coffee, counts the phones on it, and returns a signed token that the app re-checks about weekly. We keep that record while the membership is active and delete it on request.
Meta AI and the glasses
Pairing, firmware and the glasses themselves are handled by Meta's own app under Meta's privacy policy. Sightline uses Meta's developer toolkit to receive the camera and microphone from the glasses and sets the toolkit's analytics opt-out, so it sends Meta no usage analytics from this app.
Nothing else
No usage statistics, no crash reports, no advertising identifiers, no contact or location access, no third-party SDKs beyond Meta's toolkit, the Android libraries, the streaming encoder and the Google Play Billing library noted below.

What stays on your phone.

  • API keys and stream keys are encrypted with a key that lives in the Android Keystore, and the app opts out of Android backups, so they are never copied to a cloud backup.
  • Settings (provider, voice, languages, recording quality) are stored in the app's private storage.
  • Field Notes are saved as files in the app's private storage until you export or share them.
  • POV recordings are written to the app's private storage and only reach your gallery or another app when you tap Save or Share.
  • Conversation context for follow-up questions is kept in memory while the app runs and is not written to disk.

Permissions, and why each one is there.

Bluetooth and Bluetooth Connect
Talking to the glasses. This is how Meta's toolkit links the phone and the glasses.
Internet and network state
Reaching your AI provider, the streaming platform you chose, and the membership check. Nothing else.
Microphone and audio settings
Speech recognition, which runs on the phone but listens through the glasses' Bluetooth microphone. The audio-settings permission routes the glasses' mic to the recognizer.
Camera
Declared only for a testing mode that uses the phone camera as fake glasses. In normal use Sightline never opens the phone's camera; the pictures come from the glasses.
Foreground service, connected device and microphone types, wake lock
Keeping the glasses link, the wake word, a recording or a stream running while the screen is off. Android shows a persistent notification whenever this is active.
Notifications
That same notification, which is also how you stop a recording or stream from the lock screen.
Google Play Billing
A library permission for a Play Store version. The sideloaded app never calls it.

Sightline Voice, the keyboard, is an Android input method. Android warns that any keyboard can see what you type; Sightline Voice only ever inserts the words it heard and keeps no record of them.

Sideloading, and how to check the download.

Sightline isn't on the Play Store yet, so you install it from a direct link. Android asks once whether to allow installs from that source, and Google Play Protect may show a warning for an app it hasn't seen before; you can ask it to scan the file. The current release's SHA-256 checksum is 9d50cd13c9a4d714a6128fb18cb20b25b34bcccbcacdb0b17ac29957380bf9d5; compare it with a file-hash app on the phone, or on a computer with certutil -hashfile sightline.apk SHA256 on Windows or shasum -a 256 sightline.apk on a Mac. The app is signed with Tech Standpoint's key, and Android refuses an update that isn't.

Your choices.

  • Uninstalling Sightline removes everything it stored on the phone, including keys, notes and recordings that weren't saved elsewhere.
  • You can revoke an API key at any time in your provider's console; Sightline then simply stops working until you add another.
  • Membership → Remove this phone frees the phone's slot and deletes its token. To delete the membership record itself, email us.
  • Turning off Developer Mode in the Meta AI app disconnects the app from the glasses.

Sightline is not directed at children under 13.

Contact and changes.

Questions, deletion requests or anything that looks wrong: [email protected]. If a future version adds a permission, a library or a server call, this page changes in the same release and the date at the top moves.
