Sightline · an app made by Tech Standpoint

Your Ray-Ban Meta glasses, with the AI you already pay for.

Sightline is an Android app that turns Ray-Ban Meta glasses into a hands-free assistant. You bring your own Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini or Grok key, so there is no AI subscription in the middle: you pay your provider for what you use, and the basics are free.

  • 4AI providers to choose from
  • $0for the free core, always
  • 10free founding memberships
What it does

Ask, see, type and record, all hands-free.

Press the capture button on the glasses, ask a question, and the answer plays in your ear. Hold the button and Sightline photographs what you're looking at and tells you about it. The free core is the assistant; membership adds the heavy-duty features below.

Free for everyone

  • Ask: press the capture button or the mic, talk, and hear the answer through the glasses
  • Snap & Ask: hold the capture button to ask about what you're looking at
  • A wake word, so you can start a question without touching anything
  • Web search on Claude and Gemini for live info like hours, prices and news
  • POV recording at Medium quality and 30 fps, in clips of up to 5 minutes
  • Captions in the lens on Ray-Ban Display, and "Hey Meta, start Sightline"
  • Battery, charging and sensor readouts for the glasses

Members unlock

  • Sightline Voice keyboard: voice-type into any app through the glasses' mic
  • Live Look: a running narration of what changes in front of you
  • Field Notes: hands-free dictation with photos, cleaned into a summary and action items
  • Translate & Read Aloud: live two-way interpreting, plus point-and-read for signs and menus
  • POV Recording at High quality and 60 fps with no length cap, plus AI chapters and a summary
  • Live Streaming to YouTube, Twitch, Kick, Facebook or TikTok from your point of view

The keyboard that listens through the glasses.

Voice typing on an Android phone uses the phone's microphone, even when your glasses are connected, so dictating a message means holding the phone up to your face. Sightline Voice is a keyboard with one key: a mic. Switch to it in any app, press the key or the capture button on the glasses, talk, and the words land in the text field as you speak. It runs on the same speech pipeline as the rest of the app, so the glasses' microphone does the listening.

It's the first thing membership unlocks.

How to get it.

  1. Install Sightline. Download the Android app (about 15 MB). It's a direct install, so Android asks you once to allow it.
  2. Turn on Developer Mode in the Meta AI app: Settings → App Info, tap the version number five times, switch it on. One time only; see below for why.
  3. Connect and add your key. Tap Connect to Meta AI in Sightline, then paste your Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini or Grok API key. The app walks you through getting one.
  4. Want the member features? Join on Buy Me a Coffee: US$10 a month or US$100 a year, shown in Canadian dollars at checkout. Then open Membership in the app and tap Unlock with the email you joined with. Cancel any time; access runs to the end of what you've paid for.
The first 10 members get Sightline free. Open Membership in the app and tap Claim a free spot, or email [email protected]. I approve spots by hand, usually within a day.

Why there's a Developer Mode step.

Sightline is built on Meta's Wearables Device Access Toolkit, which is still in developer preview. Meta hasn't opened public app listings for the glasses yet, so the Meta AI app only talks to an unpublished app like this one when Developer Mode is on. It is a toggle meant for testing apps, nothing in your glasses changes, and you can turn it off again whenever you like. When Meta opens publishing, this step goes away.

What you need.

Phone
Android 12 or newer with a 64-bit processor, which is nearly every Android phone sold since 2021. iPhone isn't supported.
Glasses
Ray-Ban Meta glasses, already set up and working in the Meta AI app. Ray-Ban Display also shows Sightline's captions in the lens.
An AI key
Your own API key from Anthropic (Claude), OpenAI (ChatGPT), Google (Gemini) or xAI (Grok). These are pay-as-you-go accounts with a spending cap you set; the app has a step-by-step guide for each.
Developer Mode
Switched on once in the Meta AI app (Settings → App Info → tap the version number five times).
The install
A direct download (an APK), not the Play Store. Android asks you once to allow installs from the link.

What it costs to run.

Two things: the membership if you want the member features, and whatever your AI provider charges. A spoken question is a few hundred tokens; one with a photo is roughly one to two thousand. On Claude Sonnet at about US$3 per million input tokens, a photo question costs a fraction of a cent, so a few dollars of credit goes a long way. Live Look sends a small frame every few seconds, which adds up faster, and POV Recording has a plain mode with no AI and no token cost at all. Your key is stored encrypted on your phone and only ever sent to the provider you chose.

Privacy, in plain words.

Installing an app from outside the Play Store is a trust decision, so here is exactly what Sightline does with your data. The full privacy policy lists every permission and where each byte goes.

  • No account, no analytics, no ads, no tracking. There is nothing to sign up for and no usage or crash reporting of any kind.
  • Your questions, photos and audio go only to the AI provider you chose, straight from your phone with your own key. Tech Standpoint never sees them and has no server in that path.
  • Streams go to the platform you picked with the stream key you entered, and nowhere else.
  • The membership check sends your email or unlock code and a random device id to our small Cloudflare service, so it can confirm you're a member and count phones. That is all it stores.
  • API keys are encrypted on the phone with a key held in the Android Keystore and are excluded from backups. Recordings and notes stay on the phone until you share them.
  • Meta's toolkit analytics are switched off in the app's configuration.
  • Check the download: the SHA-256 of the current release is 9d50cd13c9a4d714a6128fb18cb20b25b34bcccbcacdb0b17ac29957380bf9d5.

Honest notes.

  • Sightline is not affiliated with or endorsed by Meta. It uses Meta's official developer toolkit and nothing else of theirs.
  • It's an early release installed outside the Play Store. Live streaming is the newest part and may need a setting or two adjusted for your phone.
  • The Developer Mode toggle exists for testing apps like this. If Meta changes how it works, Sightline will follow Meta's rules, and members will hear about it first.
  • The AI isn't included. You pay Anthropic, OpenAI, Google or xAI directly for what you use.
  • Tech Standpoint reviews smart glasses and also makes this app. Our Ray-Ban Meta review says so, and we don't give Sightline a Standpoint Score.

Questions before you install.

Will Meta AI still work on the glasses?

Yes. Sightline runs alongside Meta AI, which still handles pairing and the glasses themselves. You switch to Sightline with the capture button, the wake word or "Hey Meta, start Sightline".

Do I need a membership to use it?

No. The free core, which is the assistant, works for everyone. Membership unlocks the keyboard, Live Look, Field Notes, Translate, longer recording and streaming.

Which AI should I pick?

Whichever you already have an account with. Claude and Gemini can search the web for live answers; all four handle photo questions, though with Grok you'll want a Grok 4 model, since the older Grok 3 ones can't see images. You can switch providers in Settings and keep a key for each.

How do I cancel or get a refund?

Memberships are billed by Buy Me a Coffee. Cancel from your Buy Me a Coffee account any time; you keep access until the end of the period you paid for. Email [email protected] if something isn't working and I'll sort it out.

Does it work with the phone screen off?

Yes. The capture button on the glasses still starts a question, and recordings, streams and Live Look keep running, because Sightline holds the glasses link in a foreground service. The one thing to do once: turn off battery optimization for Sightline in Android's battery settings, or Android will put the app to sleep after a while. Settings → Wake word has a button that opens the right screen.

Is there an iPhone version?

Not yet. Sightline is Android only.

Sightline is made by Tech Standpoint in Ontario. Ray-Ban and Meta are trademarks of their owners and are used here only to say which glasses the app works with.
