Our read on each category, and the trap to watch for.
November is when last year's TVs are cheapest, because the new lineup arrives in spring and stores clear the old one. The outgoing model is usually most of the TV for a lot less money.
Watch for: Black Friday-only model numbers that look like a known TV but have a weaker panel or fewer HDMI 2.1 ports. Compare the full model number with the one reviewers tested.
TV reviewsGood laptops do get real discounts, but the cheapest doorbuster laptops are often configurations built for the sale: 8 GB of memory, small storage, a dim screen.
Watch for: 16 GB of memory as a minimum for Windows, the exact CPU generation, and screen brightness. If a deal hides the specs, skip it.
Computing reviewsRobot vacuums see some of the deepest discounts of the year, especially last year's flagships when the new ones are out. A two-year-old flagship often cleans better than a new budget model at the same price.
Watch for: The price of bags, pads and filters, and whether the dock is included. Check what it costs to run, not just to buy.
Best robot vacuums in CanadaThe big printer brands run their own Black Friday sales, and filament bundles can be worth more than the discount on the printer. Buy the printer you'd pick anyway, at the lowest price we've tracked.
Watch for: Bundles padded with accessories you won't use, and "combo" prices compared against a list price the printer never sold at.
Best budget 3D printer setupsThe big noise-cancelling headphones and earbuds regularly hit their yearly lows around Black Friday. If the pair you want is at the lowest we've tracked, there's little reason to wait.
Watch for: Older generations dressed up as new, and grey-market sellers on Amazon. Check that it's sold by the retailer or the brand.
How to choose noise-cancelling headphonesCurrent iPhones rarely get real price cuts at retail; most "deals" are carrier plans that lock you in for two years. Pixel and Galaxy phones do get proper discounts unlocked, and those can be worth it.
Watch for: Plan deals where the phone is "free" but the monthly price is higher for 24 months. Work out the full cost.
Should you upgrade your phone?Console prices themselves rarely move much. The value is in bundles with a game or a second controller, and in big discounts on games and accessories.
Watch for: Bundles with a digital code for a game you already own, and controllers sold by third-party sellers.
Gaming reviewsCameras, doorbells, speakers and streaming sticks get some of the steepest discounts of the season, especially the brands' own devices.
Watch for: Subscriptions. A cheap camera that needs a monthly plan for recordings isn't cheap. Check what works without one.
Smart home compatibility checklistMonitors and SSDs are reliably discounted around Black Friday. Graphics cards are the exception: discounts are small and stock moves fast.
Watch for: Refresh rates and panel types that don't match the model reviewers tested, and "open box" listings mixed in with new.
Computing reviewsThe rules that save more money than the discount does.
The FTC's pricing guides say a former price only counts if it was really offered to the public for a reasonable time, and its rule banning fake and bought reviews, including AI-written ones, has applied since October 2024. Treat huge discounts against a price nobody paid with suspicion.

It is an editorial judgement, and every score shows its reason.
