Not tested. This is a research score for the documented features, compatibility and ownership trade-offs discussed in this review, not a performance measurement.
Features & capability 30%8.1
A 5x telephoto, 48 MP main sensor, Qi2.2 magnetic charging and 3,000-nit display are strong at this size, but Expert Reviews and HotHardware show the Tensor G6 well behind Snapdragon and Apple chips and throttling more than the Pixel 10.
Compatibility & connectivity 20%7.6
The MediaTek M90 modem draws praise from upgraders on r/GooglePixel, but there are scattered 5G and Wi-Fi complaints, no UWB, Wi-Fi 6E only, and GrapheneOS says it may skip the phone.
Ownership & upkeep 20%7.7
Seven years of updates and spare parts and a one-year Canadian warranty are excellent, but the $1,249 floor is up $150, there's no charger in the box, and the Pixel 11 was still missing Android 17 QPR1 in October per 9to5Google.
Setup & everyday use 15%8.2
BGR, GSMArena and MobileSyrup describe a snappy, compact, bloat-free phone with a fast fingerprint reader and one-day battery; the knocks are weak gaming, tinny speakers at high volume and face unlock that fails in the dark.
Documentation & support clarity 15%7.4
Google's spec and update pages are clear and the warranty terms are published for Canada, but Google gave no explanation for the QPR1 delay, the September updates shipped without changelogs, and no Canadian return window is stated on the pages read.

Buy the Pixel 11 if you're coming from a Pixel 8, Pixel 9 or an older iPhone, you like a 6.3-inch phone you can use one-handed, and the camera matters more to you than gaming. Outside reviewers agree it's a good phone: a strong 5x telephoto the base iPhone 17 and Galaxy S26 don't have, a bright accurate screen, Qi2.2 magnetic charging and seven years of updates. Skip it if you own a Pixel 10, because Tom's Guide, GSMArena and MobileSyrup all say there's too little new here. Skip it too if you game hard, since the Tensor G6 lands well behind Snapdragon and Apple chips and throttles more than the Pixel 10 did. If the $1,249 sticker bothers you, wait for a sale: Canadian owners on Reddit saw the Pro models drop by $300 to $400 within six weeks of launch.
Reasons to consider it
- A real 5x telephoto at this price: Engadget calls the three-camera setup a clear win over the base iPhone 17 (no telephoto) and the Galaxy S26 (3x), and BGR and GSMArena both single out the 5x lens as the best thing about the camera
- Battery life that beats its direct rivals: Tom's Guide's test ran 12 hours 45 minutes, behind the Pixel 10 but ahead of the Galaxy S26 and iPhone 17, and Expert Reviews' video loop went 25 hours 25 minutes, about three hours longer than the Pixel 10
- The new MediaTek M90 modem is the change owners care about most: several r/GooglePixel posters who upgraded from Pixel 9 and Pixel 10 phones report better reception and cooler running, which was the loudest complaint about older Tensor Pixels
- Seven years of OS and security updates plus seven years of spare parts, a compact 197 g body, Qi2.2 magnetic charging and 256 GB as the base storage
Go in knowing
- The Tensor G6 is the weak spot every outlet names: Expert Reviews measured the Galaxy S26 at 64 percent and the iPhone 17 at 49 percent faster in Geekbench 6 multi-core, HotHardware found it throttles more than the Pixel 10 under sustained load, and WhistleOut and BGR both say demanding games run poorly
- $1,249 is the floor in Canada because Google dropped the 128 GB tier; a Pixel 10 launched at $1,099 and is now discounted, and MobileSyrup calls this a bad year to upgrade
- Software support has started badly: as of early October the Pixel 11 series was the only Pixel line still without Android 17 QPR1, with no explanation from Google, per 9to5Google and Android Authority
- Reviewer and owner complaints add up: fixed-focus ultrawide with no macro, speakers that BGR says turn tinny past two-thirds volume, Wi-Fi 6E rather than Wi-Fi 7, no UWB, and scattered r/GooglePixel reports of 5G drops and Wi-Fi reconnect trouble, mostly on the Pro models

Why the cheapest Pixel 11 costs $150 more than the cheapest Pixel 10 did
Here's the number that matters for a Canadian buyer. The Pixel 11 starts at $1,249 for 256 GB, and that's it: Google dropped the 128 GB tier. Last year a Pixel 10 started at $1,099 with 128 GB and $1,229 with 256 GB, so like-for-like the price is up $20, but the cheapest way into a new base Pixel is up $150. Staples.ca listed the Obsidian 256 GB model at $1,249.00 on October 24, 2026, and MobileSyrup and iPhone in Canada reported the same Google Store Canada pricing at launch, with 512 GB at $1,419. In the US it's US$899.
You get a 6.3-inch phone with the new Tensor G6 chip, 12 GB of RAM, a 4,985 mAh battery, a bigger 48 MP main sensor, a 5x telephoto, 30 W wired charging and 25 W Qi2.2 magnetic wireless charging. It runs Android 17 with seven years of OS and security updates promised. The camera bar is slimmer than the Pixel 10's, and it weighs 197 g.
This is a research review. Cameron hasn't used a Pixel 11 yet, so everything here comes from Google's documentation, eight outside reviews and owner threads on r/GooglePixel. The question: at $1,249, is the Pixel 11 a better buy than a discounted Pixel 10, a Pixel 11 Pro at $1,499, or a Galaxy S26 FE at $1,189.99? Start with what actually changed.
What Google changed, what it quietly dropped, and who shouldn't upgrade
The list of real changes is short. The Tensor G6 is built on TSMC's 3 nm process and Google says its AI processor is 50 percent faster than the G5's. The main sensor grew from 1/2.0 inch to 1/1.56 inch, which Google says gathers 56 percent more light. Super Zoom goes to 30x instead of 20x. The battery grew by 15 mAh, wireless charging moved to Qi2.2 at 25 W, and the phone lost about 7 g. Base storage doubled to 256 GB. The biggest change isn't on the spec sheet: Google swapped Samsung's Exynos modem for a MediaTek M90, which HotHardware lists as a main pro.
The display, the 5x telephoto, the ultrawide and the selfie camera are all carried over from the Pixel 10. The HiLight LED ring around the flash is Pro-only, so the base model doesn't get it. There's no UWB chip and Wi-Fi stays at 6E; Wi-Fi 7 is Pro-only too. RAM is fixed at 12 GB, where the Pro models offer 16 GB. No charger comes in the box.
Who should skip the upgrade is where the reviews agree most. Tom's Guide titled its review 'lackluster upgrades that cost $100 more.' GSMArena says Pixel 10 owners have little reason to move. MobileSyrup calls it a bad year to upgrade, but says Pixel 7 and 8 owners would benefit. Engadget, the most positive outlet at 9.2 out of 10, still calls it an upgrade for Pixel 9 owners and older, not for anyone on a Pixel 10. The first thing those older-Pixel owners will ask about is the chip.
Tensor G6: faster than the Pixel 10, still a generation behind everyone else
Every outlet lands in the same place on the Tensor G6: better, not good enough. Expert Reviews' Geekbench 6 runs put it 15 percent ahead of the Pixel 10 in single-core and 8 percent in multi-core. The same test put the Galaxy S26 64 percent ahead in multi-core and the iPhone 17 49 percent ahead. MobileSyrup's Geekbench 7 numbers were 2,274 single-core and 6,941 multi-core. HotHardware places the chip between a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and a Snapdragon 8 Elite, which is to say between a 2023 flagship and a 2024 one.
Sustained load is the sharper problem. HotHardware's 3DMark Wild Life stress test held 60.6 percent of peak performance and Steel Nomad Light held 80.6 percent, and it says the Pixel 11 throttles more than the Pixel 10 did. Notebookcheck reported a Japanese site's AnTuTu runs on the Pixel 11 Pro, where the GPU score fell from 414,765 near freezing to 40,362 at 36.7 degrees. That's the Pro and an extreme test, but the same chip is in both phones. There's no ray tracing either.
Day to day, BGR says apps open quickly and animations are smooth, but under Maps navigation, background music, a hotspot and several open apps it dropped frames and lagged on typing. WhistleOut found Destiny: Rising ran poorly while Slay the Spire and Diablo Immortal were fine. On the plus side, MobileSyrup found the Pixel 11 runs cooler than the Pixel 10 Pro during gaming, and an r/GooglePixel poster upgrading from a Pixel 9 Pro XL said the same. For messaging, maps, photos and streaming, the chip is fine. If you play shooters or edit 4K video, buy a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 phone. Next question: does the small battery hold up?
Battery: 25 hours in one test, 12 hours 45 in another, and why both are right
The 4,985 mAh battery is small next to the 6,000 to 7,000 mAh cells in Chinese flagships, and the test results look contradictory until you see what each outlet measures. Expert Reviews' looping-video test ran 25 hours 25 minutes, about three hours longer than the Pixel 10. Tom's Guide's web-browsing test averaged 12 hours 45 minutes, behind the Pixel 10's 13 hours 13 minutes but ahead of the Galaxy S26 and iPhone 17. HotHardware's PCMark Work test ran 14 hours 33 minutes. Video playback is easy on a phone; constant web loading over cellular is not. The Pixel 11 does well on the easy test and fine on the hard one.
Real-world reports match that. BGR got roughly seven hours of screen-on time in heavy use, WhistleOut about six, 91mobiles around five. MobileSyrup's Canadian reviewer went from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. on typical days and rarely saw a second day, and heavy hotspotting had them hunting for a charger by 4 p.m. Call it a solid one-day phone, not a two-day one. Several r/GooglePixel owners who moved up from a Pixel 10 say battery life improved noticeably, which they credit to the more efficient modem.
Charging is the part reviewers grumble about. It's 30 W wired over USB-C PPS. GSMArena measured 31 percent at 15 minutes, 59 percent at 30 and a full charge in 1 hour 19 minutes, and calls that slow for a 2026 Android flagship. The good news is wireless: Qi2.2 at 25 W with built-in magnets means any MagSafe-style puck or stand snaps on. Budget for a charger, because there isn't one in the box.
The new MediaTek modem is the fix Pixel owners begged for, with a catch
If you've owned a Pixel 6, 7 or 8, you know why the modem matters. Samsung's Exynos modems gave those phones a reputation for dropped signal and heat. The Pixel 11 moves to a MediaTek M90, and HotHardware lists the better 5G modem as a headline pro. The owner reaction on r/GooglePixel is the strongest positive pattern in the threads: several separate upgraders from Pixel 9 and Pixel 10 phones say they get signal where the old phone didn't, 5G drains less battery, and the phone runs cooler.
The catch is that the same subreddit has a steady trickle of connectivity complaints, mostly on the Pro and Pro XL. Separate posters describe 5G dropping to no service until they force LTE, data dying in weak coverage while the 5G icon stays up, Wi-Fi refusing to reconnect on multi-band mesh networks, and one well-documented idle-drain case traced to Wi-Fi 6 wakeups on a mesh router. A Canadian poster returned both a Pixel 11 Pro and a base Pixel 11 over what they called a modem crash loop; replies said they'd never seen it, and a few suggested turning off Adaptive Connectivity and Vo5G.
The honest read: the modem is better for most owners and still not perfectly stable for a minority, and Google hasn't said much. Notebookcheck noted the Pixel 11 shipped two September updates with no changelog. If you're on Rogers, Bell or Telus and a strong 5G signal is critical, keep the receipt until you've tried it in your usual dead spots. The camera, at least, has no such caveats.
Cameras: the 5x telephoto that the base iPhone 17 and Galaxy S26 don't have
The camera is where the Pixel 11 earns its price. The 48 MP main sensor is a size up from the Pixel 10's, and the 10.8 MP 5x telephoto is the rare thing at this price. Engadget says the three-lens setup beats the base iPhone 17, which has no telephoto at all, and the Galaxy S26, which stops at 3x. BGR calls the 5x lens strong and Night Sight good. GSMArena lists solid cameras and very good autofocus selfies among its pros. WhistleOut would pick the Pixel 11 over the Galaxy S26 for camera quality alone.
The limits are consistent across outlets. The 13 MP ultrawide is fixed focus, so there's no macro mode, which GSMArena, BGR and an upvoted r/Android commenter all call cheap at this price. Super Zoom at 30x looks rough: Expert Reviews calls the quality poor, BGR calls it aggressive and flawed, and MobileSyrup's advice is to stop at 10x. MobileSyrup's side-by-side with a Pixel 10 found the main sensor results very similar, with a slightly wider 85-degree field of view and better green tones.
Two new software features get mixed marks. Camera Looks are editable preset filters, like Apple's Photographic Styles, and MobileSyrup found little visible difference between them. Magic Capture pulls stills out of a short video, but BGR says those stills are noticeably lower resolution than normal photos. Engadget notes the 30x zoom uses multi-frame processing rather than generative AI, a point in its favour if you don't want the phone inventing detail. So: a very good point-and-shoot with a real zoom. How does that hold up against the phones a Canadian would cross-shop?
Pixel 11 vs Pixel 11 Pro, Galaxy S26 FE and iPhone 17, in Canadian dollars
Pixel 11 Pro, $1,499 for 256 GB. For $250 more you get a sharper LTPO display with a 1 Hz floor, a 50 MP main camera, a 48 MP 5x periscope, Pro Zoom to 120x, Wi-Fi 7, UWB, the HiLight LED and optional 16 GB of RAM, with a slightly smaller battery per BGR. MobileSyrup's Canadian reviewer says the base Pixel 11 is the one they'd buy unless you're a real camera snob. Tech Standpoint's Pixel 11 Pro review landed at 8.3. The base model is the better value; the Pro is the better camera.
Samsung Galaxy S26 FE, $1,049.99 for 128 GB or $1,189.99 for 256 GB, per MobileSyrup. It undercuts the Pixel 11 by $59 at 256 GB and keeps a 128 GB option. Reviewers call it solid but uninspiring, and Tom's Guide's hands-on questioned whether it needed to exist. You get One UI, DeX and a 3x telephoto, but a dimmer panel than the rest of the S26 line. Tech Standpoint scored it 7.8. Samsung raised the regular S26's Canadian price by $150 to $250 in October, so that model now costs clearly more than the Pixel.
Apple iPhone 17, $1,299 for 256 GB on Apple's Canadian store after a September increase reported by iPhone in Canada. It has a far faster A19 chip and a lighter body, but no telephoto lens, and Tom's Guide's battery test puts it behind the Pixel 11. If you're already in iMessage and AirPods, the iPhone is the easy pick. If the zoom lens matters, the Pixel wins at $50 less. And a discounted Pixel 10 is the quiet alternative: BGR says it's worth considering for value.
Living with it: seven years of updates, but the Pixel 11 is still waiting for QPR1
Google's Pixel update page promises seven years of Android version and security updates, counted from the US on-sale date, which puts the end around August 2033. 91mobiles reported Google confirmed seven years of spare parts for the Pixel 11 series in every market. That's as good as any phone gets. Google's Canadian warranty page covers new phones for one year against defects, with repair, replacement or refund at Google's choice. Telus advertises a defect warranty for the full two-year term on financed phones. For returns, check the retailer's own policy page before you buy.
The promise and the practice have already diverged. Google released Android 17 QPR1 for every other Pixel in late September, but as of October 7 the Pixel 11 series was still on the original Android 17 build, per 9to5Google and Android Authority, with no explanation from Google. The October update brought two Pixel 11 fixes, for a keyboard that sometimes didn't appear and for photos saving in the wrong orientation. Tech Advisor and 9to5Google both suggest the Pixel 11 may skip straight to QPR2 in December. A thread about the gap drew more than 200 upvotes on r/GooglePixel.
Two more things long-term owners raise. GrapheneOS, the privacy-focused Android build many Pixel buyers choose for, said in October the Pixel 11 doesn't yet meet its security standards and may be skipped, reportedly over a hardware memory-tagging feature Google removed from the Tensor G6. If that's why you buy Pixels, wait. And prices move fast: Canadian posters on r/GooglePixel reported Best Buy Canada and the Google Store cutting the Pixel 11 Pro XL by $400 and the Pro by $300 in early October, with Best Buy honouring price matches inside its return window. The base model's sale status at Best Buy Canada and Amazon.ca couldn't be confirmed for this review, so check both before paying $1,249.
Who should buy the Pixel 11, who should skip it, and what to buy instead
Buy it if you're on a Pixel 9 or older, or an iPhone 13 or older, and you want a compact phone with a real 5x zoom, clean Android, magnetic wireless charging and updates into 2033. It's also the right Pixel for most people: MobileSyrup and BGR both call the base model the sweet spot, and the extra $250 for the Pro only pays off if you shoot a lot at 10x and beyond. Wait for a sale if you can; the Pro models dropped within six weeks and the base model is likely to follow before Black Friday.
Skip it if you own a Pixel 10, because every outlet that compared them says the difference isn't worth $1,249. Skip it if gaming matters; a Galaxy S26 or iPhone 17 gets you a far faster chip. Skip it for now if you depend on GrapheneOS, or need Wi-Fi 7 and UWB, which are Pro-only.
What to buy instead: a discounted Pixel 10 for the same camera experience at a lower price, the Pixel 11 Pro at $1,499 if the camera is the whole point, or the iPhone 17 at $1,299 if you're in Apple's ecosystem and can live without a telephoto. The Pixel 11's score reflects a genuinely good phone held back by a chip that's behind, a Canadian price that went up, and a software rollout that started with a stumble.
The closest alternatives.

Questions before checkout.
How much does the Google Pixel 11 cost in Canada?
The Pixel 11 starts at $1,249 for 256 GB and $1,419 for 512 GB on the Google Store in Canada, per MobileSyrup and iPhone in Canada, and Staples.ca listed the 256 GB Obsidian model at $1,249.00 on October 24, 2026. There's no 128 GB model this year, so $1,249 is the floor before sales or trade-in credit.
Is the Pixel 11 worth upgrading to from a Pixel 10?
Most reviewers say no. Tom's Guide, GSMArena and MobileSyrup all found the Pixel 11 too similar to the Pixel 10, with a slightly faster chip, a bigger main sensor and a better modem but the same display and telephoto. If your Pixel 10 has signal problems, the new MediaTek modem is the one reason some owners on r/GooglePixel say the move was worth it.
How long does the Pixel 11 battery last?
It's a solid one-day phone. Reviewers report five to seven hours of screen-on time depending on how hard they pushed it, and MobileSyrup's Canadian tester went from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. on typical days. Tom's Guide's lab test ran 12 hours 45 minutes, ahead of the Galaxy S26 and iPhone 17 but slightly behind the Pixel 10. Heavy hotspotting or gaming will need a mid-afternoon top-up.
Does the Pixel 11 overheat or throttle?
It throttles under sustained load. HotHardware found the Pixel 11 holds about 61 percent of its peak graphics performance in 3DMark's stress test and throttles more than the Pixel 10 did, and Notebookcheck reported heavy GPU throttling on the Pixel 11 Pro in a Japanese site's AnTuTu runs. In everyday use MobileSyrup found it runs cooler than the Pixel 10 Pro, and several owners say the new modem runs cooler than older Pixels.
How many years of updates does the Pixel 11 get?
Google's Pixel update page promises seven years of Android version and security updates from the date the phone first went on sale in the US, which works out to around August 2033. Google also confirmed seven years of spare parts availability, per 91mobiles. As of early October the Pixel 11 was still waiting on the Android 17 QPR1 feature update that older Pixels already had.
Does the Pixel 11 come with a charger, and what wireless charging does it support?
No charger is in the box. The phone supports 30 W wired charging over USB-C PPS, which GSMArena measured at 59 percent in 30 minutes and a full charge in 1 hour 19 minutes. Wireless charging is Qi2.2 at up to 25 W with built-in Pixelsnap magnets, so MagSafe-style pucks and stands snap on and align without a special case.
