The editorial verdict

The ownership case.

A2 is a substantive development of A1, particularly around sensing and edge reach. Its usefulness depends on whether those changes reduce actual interventions and trimming on the property, rather than merely improve the specification sheet.

Reasons to consider it

  • Camera-enhanced LiDAR navigation
  • Extended edge-cutting system
  • Dual-map and zone controls

Go in knowing

  • Edge claim is not a zero-trimming guarantee
  • Regional Link Module terms need confirmation
  • Global capacity figures are mode-dependent

01 / THE DETAILS

The edge system deserves the closest look

Dreame A2 adds an EdgeMaster cutting arrangement and camera-enhanced OmniSense 2.0 navigation to the original A1 concept. The official specification describes a disc-to-edge distance below five centimetres. That is a hardware-related claim, not proof that every lawn boundary will be fully cut. Raised walls, curves and safety margins can still leave a strip. We would measure the result beside several border types before assigning value to the mechanism.

The machine retains a 22-centimetre width and three-to-seven-centimetre height range in the global specification. Its published capacity rises to 3,000 square metres, but daily efficiency references depend on mode. Owners should work backward from the grass height and available schedule they actually need. A larger area label does not make the mower a universal replacement for a wide conventional deck.

02 / THE DETAILS

More sensing is useful when it changes behaviour

A2 combines 3D LiDAR with a camera. The intended advantage is a richer understanding of boundaries and obstacles, including automated boundary setup. The practical test is not whether the app draws a map quickly; it is whether that map remains safe and useful after a chair moves or a bed changes appearance. We would inspect automatic boundaries carefully before permitting routine operation.

The manufacturer also lists dual-map support and multiple mowing modes. These may be valuable for separated lawns, but owners should clarify what physical handling or charging arrangements are required between disconnected areas. A software map does not create a route through a locked gate. The installation tutorials are useful here because they separately address work zones, paths and a second map rather than presenting all segmentation as one effortless feature.

03 / THE DETAILS

Connectivity should earn its place

A2's Garden Guardian and Link Module features extend the product beyond cutting. Yard viewing may be convenient, but it introduces account and data questions that a mower-only buyer may not otherwise consider. Ask which services are included locally and how they behave without Wi-Fi. The global package description should not be taken as evidence that every regional retailer supplies the same module or service period.

The 50% slope claim and hub-motor design also need practical assessment on the actual lawn. Our priorities would be edge-disc consistency, grass disturbance at turns and obstacle handling in shaded areas. Against A1, the additional features make sense if they solve substantial recurring work; otherwise the simpler machine may be adequate. Before importing either, secure a clear parts and repair route. We have read the specification and setup guidance, but have not measured cut quality, surveillance security or service reliability, so the verdict remains conditional on those ownership essentials.

04 / THE DETAILS

A practical acceptance test before relying on it

For A2, the acceptance comparison should isolate the additions over A1. Evaluate the camera-assisted boundary setup against a deliberately checked manual map, then measure what the edge mechanism leaves beside a wall and a flush path. This avoids attributing every successful mowing result to the newest feature. We would also verify whether the local package includes the advertised Link Module and which functions remain available after any introductory service ends. If two disconnected lawns are involved, demonstrate the full physical routine between maps. A useful dual-map function must save work in practice, not simply store another outline that still needs inconvenient carrying and charging arrangements.

05 / THE DETAILS

Setup, maintenance and the ownership decision

A2's setup tutorials distinguish work zones, connecting paths and a second map, and the owner should understand those as separate operations. A disconnected lawn may still require a physical handling or charging routine that software alone does not remove. Demonstrate the complete transfer process before buying for two isolated areas. The automatic boundary function should also be checked against the real garden edge. We would retain conservative margins during the first sessions and make small adjustments after observing operation, particularly around water, steps or a lawn that merges into another property.

EdgeMaster adds a specific inspection task. Check the extended cutting arrangement for collected grass and debris and obtain the correct instructions for blade replacement and movement of the mechanism. Compare the strip left at a raised border with the result beside level paving. The sub-five-centimetre disc-to-edge specification cannot tell the owner how the robot will behave at every corner. Inspect the height relationship between edge and central cutting as well. The added mechanism earns its cost when it reduces real finishing work without adding an equally demanding cleaning or adjustment routine.

The LiDAR-plus-camera system offers more information than A1's original arrangement, while also giving the owner more sensing surfaces to keep clear. Dust, dried water and vegetation can affect what the machine observes. Follow the cleaning directions for each component rather than assuming the IPX6 classification authorises any washing technique. Record recurring navigation issues with firmware and location details before altering multiple settings at once. A controlled change helps distinguish an environmental issue from a map or software problem. We would also verify that the mower reliably resumes after charging and weather-related interruptions.

Garden Guardian and the Link Module make connectivity part of the value proposition for some buyers. Confirm that the delivered regional package includes the expected module and identify any included-service period. Decide who can view the garden and whether the camera reaches neighbouring areas. Review account sharing and recovery before the installer leaves. We have not independently tested the surveillance functions or data protections. Remote observation can help diagnose a stopped mower, but safe operation still requires separating cutting from children, pets and other activity and knowing how to stop the machine at its own controls.

The global 3,000-square-metre claim should not substitute for a locally supported operating plan. Choose the required height within the three-to-seven-centimetre range and estimate the schedule using the mode that delivers an acceptable finish. Obtain battery, brush, blade-holder and repair information from the seller serving the actual country. A2's premium over A1 is easiest to justify when the edge and camera improvements solve specific work. If the lawn is simple and regional service is uncertain, a more elaborate specification may provide less ownership value than a straightforward mower with readily available parts.

06 / THE DETAILS

Seasonal storage and return to work

The A2 setup guidance explicitly includes battery and winter-storage topics, making the official procedure a useful part of the purchase handover. Record maps, height and Link Module arrangements before shutdown. Inspect the edge mechanism and sensing surfaces when restarting, then verify the boundaries of each map independently. If disconnected lawns require handling between them, repeat that complete routine before resuming schedules. Seasonal changes provide a practical test of whether the added camera, mapping and edge features remain straightforward to use beyond the first installation day.
