The short version

Most Canadians should buy filament from a store that ships from inside the country, in quantities that hit a free-shipping line, rather than chase the lowest single-spool price. In October 2026 I found plain PLA from $12.99 a kilogram (SOLEYIN Ultra PLA at Canada Computers, EconoFil at Filaments.ca) up to about $30 for Canadian-made PLA+ and some house brands. PETG ran about $15 to $26 a kilogram and ordinary TPU about $20 to $30. All prices are before tax, so in Ontario a $12.99 spool is $14.68 at the till with 13% HST, and Amazon's prices move daily.

My own bias, declared: I print on a Bambu Lab P2S Combo, mostly with Bambu's PLA, wood-fill PLA and PETG. My review of the printer is at Bambu Lab P2S Combo (AMS 2 Pro) review. Which material to buy is a separate question, covered in pla vs petg vs tpu. This guide is about where to buy it and what it costs.

Bambu Lab, Canada Computers and Best Buy

Bambu Lab's Canadian store sells PLA Basic at $22.99 on a spool or $18.99 as a refill without one. Buy 10 or more, mixed across colours, and those drop to $16.09 and $13.29. PETG Basic is $21.99 on a spool or $17.99 as a refill, and $12.59 a refill at 10 or more. TPU for AMS starts at $44.99 a kilogram, and the TPU 95A HF is $53.99. Filament ships free over $60 from a Canadian warehouse. Canadian owners in r/BambuLab who've done the sums are split: some say Bambu's bulk pricing roughly matches third-party brands on Amazon, others find those brands a few dollars cheaper on sale. Bambu's edge is RFID tags that set the print profile for you.

Canada Computers is the quiet bargain. It had SOLEYIN Ultra PLA (listed under Creality) at $12.99, Creality Ender-PLA at $15.99, Creality CR-PETG and Hyper-PETG at $15.99, SUNLU PETG at $16.99, SUNLU TPU 90A at $26.99 and Bambu PLA Basic at $22.99, with pickup at its stores. Best Buy Canada carries Bambu PLA Basic and Matte at $22.99 with store pickup; most other filament there is online-only and often pricier, such as Creality Hyper PLA at $25.99.

Amazon.ca and the brands' own Canadian stores

Amazon.ca had SUNLU PLA at $16.78 to $17.13, eSUN PLA at $17.04 to $20.69, Overture at $19.99 and Elegoo PLA at $21.99, or $63.99 for a 4 kg pack ($16 a kilogram). For PETG: Overture $19.99, SUNLU $18.71, Elegoo Rapid PETG $20.99 and Polymaker $23.99. Bundles push PETG lower: SUNLU's 4 kg pack of translucent colours was $53.19 (about $13.30 a kilogram) and a TECBEARS 4 kg matte PETG bundle was $43.60 (about $10.90). TPU 95A from Elegoo and Overture was $25.99, and Polymaker's 0.75 kg TPU was $26.99, about $36 a kilogram once you do the maths.

Elegoo Canada lists PLA, Rapid PETG and PETG HF at $18.99 and TPU 95A at $24.99, with 10 kg of spool-free PLA Basic from $139.99 ($14 a kilogram). Anycubic Canada lists PLA Basic at $24.99 a spool but $15.99 a kilogram in a 10 kg pack. Creality's own Canadian store wanted $25.99 for a kilogram of white Hyper PLA and $27.99 for Hyper PETG, more than Canada Computers charges for Creality filament.

Canadian-made and Canadian-stocked

If you'd rather keep the money here, two names come up again and again in r/BuyCanadian and r/3Dprinting threads: Matter3D in Victoria and 3D Printing Canada in Hamilton. Matter3D says it makes its PLA and PETG in Victoria. Its Basics PLA was $17.65 a kilogram on a plastic or cardboard spool, or $149.99 for ten, and its cheaper Essentials PLA was $13.99. PETG HF was also $17.65. Shipping is free over $105 and it says most orders ship within five business days. Owners in those threads praise the prices and the service.

3D Printing Canada sells its own Canadian-made PLA+ and PETG+ at $25.99 (marked down from $29.95) and a basic PLA at $18.99, with some colours on plastic spools and a showroom in Hamilton. Owners speak well of its cheaper budget line. Filaments.ca ships from Kitchener and sells its EconoFil house brand at $12.99 for PLA and $15.99 for most PETG, with free shipping to most areas on orders of $125 or more, per its policy page. It doesn't claim EconoFil is made here, so treat it as Canadian-stocked. Out west, Spool3D in Calgary stocks house-brand PLA at $26 to $30. In Atlantic Canada, owners point to EurekaFilaments in Nova Scotia, which lists its PLA at $25.99.

Shipping, duty and brokerage on US and Chinese orders

Buying from a Canadian warehouse means no customs surprise, and that's most of the case for it. Order from a US store by courier and the CBSA rules are: duty and tax free up to C$40, duty free but taxed from C$40 to C$150, and both above C$150. By courier from anywhere else, the free threshold is C$20. By mail, it's C$20 from any country, including the US.

Couriers also usually charge a brokerage fee to clear the parcel, so a US deal that looks $3 a spool cheaper can cost more at your door. A .ca web address doesn't guarantee Canadian stock either. Bambu's store says outright that it ships from a Canadian warehouse; for any other brand store or marketplace seller, check for duties and the ship-from location before you pay.

Spools, refills and the AMS

If you run a Bambu AMS, spool size matters. Bambu lists the AMS 2 Pro's supported spools as 50 to 68 mm wide and 197 to 202 mm across, so check a brand's spool dimensions before you buy ten. Cardboard is where owners split. Many in r/BambuLab run newer sealed cardboard spools from eSUN, Elegoo and Polymaker for hundreds of hours without trouble; others hit problems with dented or wobbly spools and either print rim adapters or respool onto a Bambu spool. Tom's Hardware's filament guide calls Elegoo's sturdy cardboard spools compatible with AMS-style feeders, but marks cardboard down as a drawback for those machines on other brands. Matter3D and 3D Printing Canada both offer plastic spools on some colours.

Refills are the cheapest way to buy Bambu filament, and you need a reusable spool once ($8.99 on sale, normally $14.99, at Bambu Canada). The most common refill complaint in r/BambuLab is filament slipping behind the flange and tangling. Owners keep giving the same fix: after mounting the refill, press the coil outward against both sides of the spool before you cut the retaining strips.

Is premium filament worth it?

For PLA, mostly no. CNC Kitchen compared Polymaker's plain PolyLite PLA with its tougher PolyMax, which cost about double. The tough version was weaker in a straight pull (about 43 MPa against 57) and no better with heat, but roughly four times tougher on impact. If you're paying extra for PLA+ expecting strength, CNC Kitchen's suggestion is to look at PETG instead. Where paying more does earn its keep is colour consistency across reorders and, on a Bambu, RFID tags that save setting profiles by hand.

Storing it in a Canadian house

Filament starts absorbing moisture the day you open it, and Canadian homes swing from humid summers to very dry winters. PLA forgives a lot. PETG and TPU don't: my own PETG mask strung across the eye and mouth openings, and the likely cause was that I skipped drying the spool. Buy PETG in quantities you'll use within a season and keep it sealed. Our guides cover storage (filament storage canada), drying (drying pla and petg), the AMS 2 Pro's built-in dryer (bambu ams 2 pro drying) and PETG stringing (petg stringing fixes). A 10 kg deal only saves money if the last spool is still printable.

The bottom line

From a tech standpoint.

For cheap PLA, SOLEYIN Ultra PLA at $12.99 from Canada Computers is the lowest price I found with a store you can walk back into; EconoFil from Filaments.ca matches it if your order reaches $125. If you run a Bambu AMS, buy Bambu PLA Basic refills ten at a time: $13.29 a kilogram, a guaranteed fit and RFID.

For Canadian-made, Matter3D is the value pick at $17.65 a kilogram, or $15 in a ten-pack, with 3D Printing Canada as the Ontario option. For PETG, I'd pay a little more for Polymaker PETG at $23.99 on Amazon.ca. Polymaker says it ships vacuum-sealed, which matters for the most moisture-sensitive material most people print, and it's the company Tom's Hardware said it would pick if it could only shop at one. If price is everything, Creality's PETG is $15.99 at Canada Computers, and 4 kg bundles from SUNLU and others work out cheaper still.
